2026 Memorial Walk

Sunday, April 19, 2026 at 11AM

An observance of gathering to raise awareness and promote victims’ rights. Participate and join others who feel deeply about sharing stories, services, and resources for victims, survivors, and loved ones.

About the Memorial Walk and National Crime Victims’ Rights Week

National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW) was created in 1981 as a way to annually acknowledge and promote victims’ rights. In addition to raising awareness, the commemoration provides individuals and organizations a time to share services available to families and loved ones. Observances and events take place across the United States in the month of April.

This year, join NYS STOP-DWI, its supporters, and victim rights advocates for the 2026 Memorial Walk on Sunday, April 19th at 11AM. Sign-in begins at 9:00AM at the Empire State Plaza in Albany, New York.

The Memorial Walk event consists of two 3/4-mile laps (for a total of 1.5 miles) around the Plaza and ending at the New York State Crime Victims Memorial. The route is handicap-accessible, so everyone can participate. See the walking maps here as an Adobe PDF and available here as an image.

Attendees can expect to participate in other events and displays that day. NYS STOP-DWI staff and volunteers will be available to answer questions, share resources, and display merchandise available for purchase.

How to Participate

The cost to participate is $60 per person. With each purchase, you will receive a commemorative t-shirt. To register and pay, tap the red button below.

Why the Memorial Walk is Important

This event is especially important because we want to recognize how victims of unsafe, drug or alcohol-impaired driving are impacted. Your donation helps us share critical safety information, tools, and resources with drivers, families, and communities who need it most.

Even a small contribution helps us spread awareness that can prevent crashes and potentially save a life.

When you give, you’re directly supporting our mission to reduce the number of persons killed or injured in alcohol and other drug-related traffic crashes. Read more about our mission here. Proceeds benefit the operation of NYS-STOP DWI, including our new first responder equipment grant fund.

Sponsorship Opportunities

We are looking for sponsors at this event. Sponsorship dollars and donations help us keep the program moving forward. Your investment in our program equips new first responders with the tools they need. Various sponsor levels are available (Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Patron levels). To view and complete the sponsorship form, see the black button below.

If you have questions about your donation, please contact Steven M. DeGroff at (degroff.stopdwi@gmail.com).

The New York State STOP-DWI Foundation, Inc. is recognized as a public charity under Internal Revenue Code section 509(a)(2) and has 501(c)(3) status. Donations are tax deductible. A copy of our IRS determination letter is available upon request. We are also registered with the New York State Charities Bureau.

New York’s STOP-DWI program is the Nations’ first and, to date, only self-sustaining impaired driving program. Other States have implemented components of self-sufficiency, but none to the degree of New York State.
