Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo &  Monroe County STOP-DWI Coordinator Peggy Duffy started the game with dropping the puck together.  Awareness items were given out at the game and many questions were asked about the STOP-DWI Program.  It was a great time and game.

2018 STOP-DWI Day at the Red Wings 9/3/2018.  About 10 local law enforcement vehicles were on hand to support awareness at the ball park.  It was a great day at the Red Wings

Monroe County purchased a portable simulator with our counties portion of the $1.6 Million appropriation by NYS for impaired driving programs.  The simulator has been used in two high schools within Monroe County.  Monroe County coordinated 3 Traffic Safety Fairs at local high schools in Greece and Pittsford with 6 different interactive stations for the students to experience the challenges of driving impaired or distracted.  Approximately 600 students were able to experience multiple interactive stations.  The simulator was available at two of the three schools.  The interactive events were; driving course (fatal vision/distracted), distract a match, battle of the belts, roll over (NYS Police), fatal vision googles, and simulator.  The feedback was great from the students.

Second Place-Connor Hamilton, Brittney Hargrove
Third Place-Amanda Andorka, Jessica Donath, Azizi Sarkis

It was an awesome evening for STOP-DWI Night at the Red Wings on July 4th.  Monroe County’s very own Bary Siegel (VIP-injured speaker) threw out the first pitch.  Barry volunteered to help hand out the lanyards and support the mission of STOP-DWI.  He has been serving our community on our VIP since the first one held, January 6, 1992.  Monroe County STOP-DWI is grateful to all our volunteers.

We hosted our fifth annual high School  DVD Contest Winner Ceremony, June 7.  I will attach a photo from the ceremony.  FYI, our second place winner was a Russian exchange student.   There were over 20 entries and five high schools who participated all three winners were from one high school, Penfield.  The first place winner will air on abc, cbs, NBC or fox during the Thanksgiving holiday.

The people featured in the photo, Our County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo, Sheriff Patrick O’Flynn, the three students and teacher from Penfield High School.

Monroe County STOP-DWI Program coordinated our first annual  Impaired Driving Victim/Survivor Retreat. Although this was a serious issue to discuss, the benefits of talking about the events in our lives and developing our resiliency skills met the needs of all attendee’s.   It was an awesome experience.  The feedback from attendee’s was positive and uplifting. Below is a photo of one of the exercises that we participated in during the day.

New York’s STOP-DWI program is the Nations’ first and, to date, only self-sustaining impaired driving program. Other States have implemented components of self-sufficiency, but none to the degree of New York State.
