First Responders play an important role in every single community. They are personnel with specialized training that are often seen as the backbone of emergency services. Law enforcement officers; emergency medical services workers; and members of fire, search, and rescue are seen as first responders.
These brave and courageous individuals do not always get the recognition they deserve. Important to their jobs are their hands, but also the equipment they use every day in the field.
STOP-DWI New York has launched a First Responder Equipment Grant Program so these professionals can apply to obtain critical tools like medical equipment, breathalyzers, ropes, extraction devices, and lots more.
Grant applications will be accepted on a rolling basis and are subject to approval and funds availability. All applications will be acknowledged. Grants are capped at $500 through September 30, 2026.
If approved and awarded, NYS STOP-DWI Foundation will purchase the equipment and arrange for its delivery to the chosen agency/agencies.

New York’s STOP-DWI program is the Nations’ first and, to date, only self-sustaining impaired driving program. Other States have implemented components of self-sufficiency, but none to the degree of New York State.
