Drivers who are impaired by drugs threaten the lives of random and innocent roadway users every day throughout New York State.
That is why the organization and website, Deadly Driving NY (DeadlyDrivingNY.org), was created. The website is meant to educate, inform, and raise awareness of the issues surrounding drugged driving in New York State.
New York’s drugged driving laws contain many loopholes. Right now, law enforcement has to name what drug is impairing the driver and only certain drugs on a list qualify. The driver can simply refuse an identifying test and the arrest cannot proceed. Why shouldn’t drugged drivers be arrested like alcohol DWI drivers even if they refuse a test? Drugged drivers are frequently not being identified until after they have crashed, or after they have hurt or killed someone. The laws are not protecting innocent people from these dangerous drivers. For people who feel like New York’s driving laws could work better, there is a way to add your voice and share your feedback so lawmakers stop drugged drivers before they cause harm to others in the community.
