Cortland County STOP-DWI STOP-DWI trailer used to transport the new driving simulator and other equipment used during STOP-DWI presentations and trainings.
The Cortland City Police Department and the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department provided a distracted driving simulator to students of all ages at the Cortland Jr-Sr High School.
Cortland County STOP-DWI conducted training for the newly purchased driving simulator. Officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office, the Village of Homer Police Department and the Cortland City Police as well as staff members of the Cortland County Health Department attended training yesterday on the Driving Simulator. The Driving Simulator is used for educating drivers of the dangers of driving while intoxicated as well as distracted driving. The Driving Simulator was purchased with a grant through STOP DWI. The Driving Simulator will be available for schools, community groups and events. If your organization is interested in using the simulator, please contact, Sheriff Mark E. “High in Plain Sight” Presented by Officer Jermaine “The Tall Cop” Galloway, was held at Greek Peak Mountain Resort, yesterday. A comprehensive review of the latest information and trends about alcohol and drug abuse in the United States. The training event was attended by not only Law Enforcement, but also Social Service Workers, Substance Abuse Counselors, District Attorneys and School Officials as well. The training organized by Sheriff Mark E. Helms and was made possible by funding from the Cortland County STOP DWI and NYS STOP DWI Foundations. Thank you to all that attended the event. New York’s STOP-DWI program is the Nations’ first and, to date, only self-sustaining impaired driving program. Other States have implemented components of self-sufficiency, but none to the degree of New York State.
