If your establishment needs 15 or more staff members that need to be alcohol server trained each year, the most cost effective option is to have an on-staff TIPS trainer. A TIPS Trainer on staff constitutes a fulltime customer service expert who will foster an atmosphere of professionalism, maintain compliance with state and local regulations, encourage teamwork among staff members, and build bridges to your community. An on-staff TIPS trainer also gives you the flexibility to train on your own schedule, allowing you to maintain excellent standards even when facing high employee turnover or gearing up for seasonal challenges.
To become a TIPS Trainer, you must successfully complete a two-day, Train-the-Trainer workshop.
The workshop fee is $499 per person, which includes the student video, instructor’s guide and access to an online tool that allows trainers to track all of their TIPS activity.
Once you become a TIPS Trainer, each person that you train is required to have a TIPS participant Manual. The manuals are $16 each and sold in bundles of 10. The $16 includes the manual, exam questions, answer sheet, processing and grading of exams, and issuing the certification card. Trainer Certification is valid for one-year. As long as the Trainer trains at least one session per year, he/she can recertify via an online exam for $75. Participant (the individual the Trainer trained) certification is valid for three years. After three years, the participant needs to attend another TIPS session, trained by the TIPS Trainer, to recertify.
