STOP-DWI Beer Glasses

Background:

Schenectady County STOP-DWI developed a poster in 2007 utilizing the STOP-DWI logo and the patches/emblems of all of the police agencies within the County with the message

"If You're Driving Impaired in Schenectady County-We will be there to pick you up!

To reach an appropriate target audience, a project was pursued to place this message on pint beer glasses to distribute to Schenectady County on-premise licensed establishments.

The placing of a police logo on a beer glass was utilized on a small scale in a successful public awareness campaign in Bennington, Vermont during 2006.

The Project:

The Schenectady County STOP-DWI Program has designed and purchased 2500 pint size imprinted glasses. (See attached artwork)

Financial support from the local Police Benevolent Associations for the project is being sought to offset the approximate $12,000 cost for the project.

Glasses will be distributed to taverns and restaurants within Schenectady County which have participated in a certified servers training program.   Specifically, participation in the TIPS program,  (Training for Intervention Procedures), a Responsible Vendors Program certified by the New York State Liquor Authority will determine eligibility.  This program is offered for a nominal fee (materials only) by the Schenectady County STOP-DWI Program, through the County STOP-DWI Coordinator, Denise Cashmere, who is a certified TIPS trainer.

GOALS:

-To increase the awareness of those who drink of the dangers and consequences of driving impaired

-To increase the number of liquor licensees trained under the TIPS/New York State Responsible Vendors Programs

-To decrease the number of injuries and deaths in Schenectady County caused by impaired driving
